Two Quakes, 25 Minutes Apart, Rock Nepal & Reverberate Across North India, Including Delhi-NCR

NEW-DELHI: Nepal experienced seismic activity in the form of two earthquakes, registering magnitudes of 4.6 and 6.2 respectively, causing reverberations felt as far as Punjab and other regions of Northern India. The National Seismology Center confirmed these tremors, underlining the seismic connectivity of the region.

The first earthquake, measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale, struck Nepal at a depth of 10 km around 2:25 pm. Subsequently, at 2:51 pm, a more intense quake, measuring 6.2 in magnitude, shook the Himalayan nation.

In the aftermath of the second earthquake, the tremors reached Delhi and the National Capital Region, prompting people to swiftly exit buildings and tall structures. Delhi Police urged the public not to succumb to panic but to move to safe locations without using elevators. An official statement from the police stated, "We hope you are all safe. Please come out of your buildings and move to a safe place, but don't panic. Do not use the elevator. Call 112 for any emergency help."

Notably, The impact of the earthquakes extended beyond Nepal, affecting various parts of Northern India, including Chandigarh and Jaipur. Residents in Jaipur reported feeling the tremors, but authorities from the Jaipur Police Control Room assured that no damage had been reported thus far.
