Launch of 'Aditya L1' Aims to expand our understanding of the Sun

SRIHARIKOTA: The Excitement is building as India's inaugural solar mission, 'Aditya L1,' gears up for launch aboard the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV). The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) officially initiated the countdown for this groundbreaking mission.

Scheduled for liftoff on a momentous Saturday at 11:50 pm, the Aditya L1 solar lab mission takes place shortly after the triumphant arrival of India's Chandrayaan-3 mission at its intended destination. The Aditya-L1 spacecraft has been meticulously designed to embark on a journey into the heart of our solar system, focusing on the Sun itself. Positioned at L1, or the Sun-Earth Lagrangian point, approximately 1.5 million kilometers away from Earth, this mission aims to provide an unparalleled understanding of the Sun and its solar wind.

ISRO shared the countdown milestone on the social media platform X, revealing, "The countdown of 23 hours and 40 minutes commenced at 12:10 pm."

Ahead of the highly anticipated launch, ISRO Chief S. Somanath participated in a significant pre-launch ritual. He visited the Sri Chengalamma Parameshwari Temple in Sullurupeta on Friday to offer prayers for the mission's success. Temple authorities disclosed that Somanath arrived at the temple at half-past seven in the morning to perform the sacred puja.

Srinivas Reddy, the executive officer of the temple, noted that it has become a customary practice for ISRO officials to seek blessings at this temple in the 15 years leading up to rocket launches. Somanath's visit to the temple a day before the Chandrayaan-3 mission showcased the continued commitment to this tradition.

With ISRO's unwavering dedication and meticulous planning, the world awaits this historic mission with bated breath.
