Chandigarh Mayor Elections 2025: In a strategic move, the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have decided to contest the Chandigarh mayoral elections together, yet again. This alliance was announced by Member of Parliament Manish Tewari on Sunday, while addressing the media at the Congress Bhawan, Sector 35, Chandigarh. 

As per the city’s five-year mayoral rotation system, the new mayor will be a woman. 

According to Tewari, the way for candidate selection will be finalized within the next few days. This alliance is considered a significant development as both parties are looking to challenge the dominance of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the region.

Even earlier, the AAP and Congress had contested the mayoral elections of Chandigarh together. The AAP had put up its candidate for the post of the mayor, and the Congress contested for the posts of the senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor. This alliance had made the municipality face a great challenge at the hands of the BJP.

This renewed alliance will pose strong competition to the BJP at the polls. The battle for the mayor, senior deputy mayor, and deputy mayor seats is expected to be very keenly contested since all parties are looking to take control of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation.

With elections just on the doorstep, the Congress and AAP would highlight the collective vision and develop Chandigarh by criticizing BJP's performance in this area.
