Licensed gun owners or those with special written permission from the District Magistrate are exempted from this restriction.

DM Chandigarh Prohibits Carrying of Weapons in the UT for 60 Days Latest News: District Magistrate, Chandigarh, prohibited everyone from carrying all kinds of firearms, lethal weapons, lathis, spears and javelins, trishuls, swords, short swords, knuckles, knives and daggers, iron rods, etc., within the limits of the Union Territory of Chandigarh for a period of 60 days.

Action will be taken against those violating the order, which will be effective from zero hours on 23.09.2025 and remain in force till 21.11.2025, District Magistrate Nishant Kumar Yadav said in the order.

The order has been issued in view of the possibility of law and order problems, security threats, and the potential misuse of weapons by anti-social elements, which could create panic, cause public nuisance, and disturb peace.

In his order dated 17.09.2025, District Magistrate Nishant Kumar Yadav stated that carrying any kind of weapon within the Union Territory of Chandigarh “in connection with the aforesaid matters would cause obstruction, annoyance or injury to persons lawfully employed, disturb public peace and tranquility, and may cause riots and affrays.”

Exemptions:
Licensed gun owners or those with special written permission from the District Magistrate are exempted from this restriction.

Police, military, para-military personnel, and other government servants are also exempted, provided they are in service uniform, carrying firearms only when on official duty, and if specifically called upon to do so.

Such personnel have been strictly ordered to carry their identity cards and authorization cards permitting them to carry firearms in connection with their official duties, issued by the competent authority.
