Punjab Government’s share has increased to Rs 1 lakh, while the Central Government’s contribution remains at Rs 1.5 lakh.  

The Central Government is set to roll out the revamped Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana 2.0 in Punjab this month, bringing significant benefits to the economically weaker sections of society. Under the updated scheme, financial assistance for house construction has been raised from Rs 1.75 lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh, aiming to improve the living standards of lakhs of residents in the state.  

Previously, beneficiaries received Rs 1.75 lakh, with Rs 25,000 contributed by the Punjab Government and Rs 1.5 lakh provided by the Central Government. Under the revised model, the Punjab Government’s share has increased to Rs 1 lakh, while the Central Government’s contribution remains at Rs 1.5 lakh.

Improved Housing for Beneficiaries

The enhanced financial support will enable eligible families to build a two-room house with a kitchen and a bathroom, ensuring secure and affordable housing for those in need.  

Eligibility Criteria  

The scheme is designed for families with an annual income of up to Rs 3 lakh. Applicants must meet the following conditions:  

  • Own a plot of 45 square yards.  
  • Have not availed of housing benefits under any Central or state scheme in the past five years.  

Prioritising the Underprivileged  

The Prime Minister Awas Yojana continues to focus on supporting underprivileged and homeless citizens across India by providing financial assistance to ensure affordable housing. This initiative reflects the governments commitment to improving living conditions and addressing housing challenges for millions in need.
