Why Are Users Leaving X for Bluesky?

A mix of political and privacy concerns has driven the migration to Bluesky:

Political Developments:

Elon Musk’s public endorsement of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign and his formation of a super PAC that reportedly spent $200 million on the canvassing trail have sparked backlash. The situation escalated when President-elect Trump announced Musk’s appointment to his cabinet, co-leading the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency alongside entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.

Many users voiced concerns that X might evolve into a right-wing echo chamber, prompting them to seek alternative platforms.

Privacy Concerns:

X recently updated its terms of service, effective November 15, granting itself the right to use user-generated content, including posts, photos, and videos (even from private accounts), to train its AI chatbot model, Grok.

The updated policy states:

“You agree that this license includes the right for us to analyze text and other information you provide...for use with and training of our machine learning and artificial intelligence models, whether generative or another type.”

This policy change has sparked privacy concerns among users, driving many to explore Bluesky as a safer alternative.

The platform’s popularity has surged, gaining another million users in just a day, positioning it as a strong contender in the social media space.

  • Verification Tool: This feature is particularly beneficial for public figures, journalists, and athletes, enabling them to establish verified identities.

Can Bluesky Handle Its Growing Popularity?
