Nitish Kumar Sworn in as Bihar Chief Minister for Record 10th Time

The national president of Janata Dal (United), Nitish Kumar, was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Bihar for a historic tenth term today at Patna’s iconic Gandhi Maidan. This event marks a remarkable milestone in the veteran leader’s career. It reflects his enduring influence in Bihar politics. According to India Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and several other senior NDA leaders attended the swearing-in ceremony.

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured a resounding mandate in the recently held Bihar Assembly elections. The alliance won 202 seats. Mahagathbandhan (MGB) secured just 35 seats. Within the NDA, the BJP emerged with 89 seats, while the JD(U) claimed 85 seats, both parties having contested 101 seats each. The election victory is a testament to the NDA’s cohesive strategy and disciplined campaign.

As reported by the Hindustan Times, Nitish Kumar was unanimously elected as the leader of the NDA Legislature Party, while Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha were chosen as BJP leader and deputy leader, respectively, ahead of the formation of the new government. Both are expected to continue in their roles as Deputy Chief Ministers, maintaining the backward–upper caste leadership balance that has shaped Bihar politics.

The oath ceremony also saw the induction of approximately 19 ministers, including senior BJP and JD(U) leaders such as Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Shravan Kumar, Mangal Pandey, and Shreyasi Singh, a Commonwealth Games gold medallist. India Today highlighted that the cabinet will comprise “16 BJP ministers and 14 from JD(U), with five to six new faces reflecting generational renewal.

Political analysts, including Prashant Kishor, highlighted the importance of clean governance. They urged that no tainted individuals should be inducted as ministers. According to BJP legislature party leader Samrat Choudhary, the NDA government’s immediate focus will be to implement the development agenda envisioned jointly by PM Modi and Nitish Kumar.

Nitish Kumar’s return to power at Gandhi Maidan celebrates his political longevity and signals a strong mandate for governance and development in Bihar, setting the stage for another impactful tenure.
