Punjab to Hold 2nd Civil Defence Mock Drill on May 31, latest news:
Punjab is set to conduct its second civil defence exercise, titled “Operation Shield,” on May 31 at 6:00 PM.
As part of the drill, a complete blackout will be implemented in civilian vulnerable areas and sensitive locations. Officials stated that air raid sirens will also be sounded during the exercise.
Invoking Section 19 of the Civil Defence Rules, 1968, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has mandated the second phase of the civil defence exercise in all districts of states and Union Territories adjoining the western border of the country.
This drill follows the Home Ministry's directive in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack. The first phase of the exercise was conducted on May 7.
Earlier, the civil defence drill in Punjab was scheduled for Thursday evening, but it was postponed due to ongoing training of volunteers by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
Similar civil defence drills were also scheduled in other border states —Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir — but were also postponed.
