Retired Space Telescope's Latest Findings Unveil Rare Planetary System with Unusual Features

NASA's Kepler telescope reveals Kepler-385 Solar System: In a groundbreaking revelation, NASA's retired Kepler space telescope has unveiled a sweltering system of seven planets, each receiving more radiant heat from their host star than any planet in our solar system. This unique planetary system, named Kepler-385, is remarkable for its distinctive characteristics, setting it apart from our cosmic neighbors.

Kepler-385 stands out as a rare find in the universe, with all seven of its planets falling into a unique category-larger than Earth but smaller than Neptune. Such planets, with these specific attributes, are relatively uncommon. The discovery of Kepler-385 is among the select few planetary systems known to house more than six confirmed planets or planet candidates.

Kepler Catalog Highlight:

The unveiling of Kepler-385 takes center stage in the latest Kepler catalog, which comprises an extensive list of nearly 4,400 planet candidates, including over 700 multi-planet systems. Jack Lissauer, a research scientist at NASA's Ames Research Center and the lead author of the catalog, expressed, "We've assembled the most accurate list of Kepler planet candidates and their properties to date."

Jack Lissauer emphasized the significance of this new catalog, stating, "NASA’s Kepler mission has discovered the majority of known exoplanets, and this new catalog will enable astronomers to learn more about their characteristics."

Exploring Kepler-385:

At the heart of the Kepler-385 system resides a star akin to our Sun, albeit slightly larger and hotter. The system features two inner planets, which are slightly larger than Earth and likely composed of rock with thin atmospheres. In contrast, the remaining five planets are substantially larger, boasting a radius about twice that of Earth, and are anticipated to be enveloped in thick atmospheres.
