Farmers unions started 'Delhi Chalo' march
Farmers' Protest 2024 Latest News: Over 200 farmer unions started 'Delhi Chalo' march on February 13 to protest against the Central government and emphasize on their demands that include a legal assurance about Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crop production. The protest is said to be a repeat of what happened in 2021. However, this year, the farmers and the Union Ministers held a couple of meetings before the protesting farmers even reached Delhi.
Unfortunately, all the meetings remained inconclusive due to which the farmers, who were protesting at Shambhu border and Khanauri border, have started to march towards Delhi yet again.
Farmers' Protest 2024 Demands:
The farmers have been protesting to emphasize their demands that include a law guaranteeing a minimum support price (MSP), implementation of the Swaminathan Commission’s recommendations, pensions for farmers and farm labourers, and farm debt waiver. Besides, they also believe that the Centre should provide “justice” for victims of the Lakhimpur Kheri violence.
Farmers reject Centre's offer
After fourth round of meetings between the farmers and the Union Ministers, the protesting farmers were proposed an offer regarding the contract system for MSP which the farmers denied and rejected it.
“We will peacefully start our march towards Delhi. We appeal the Centre government to resolve our issues by holding talks or let us march to Delhi by removing the barricades erected on the Punjab-Haryana boundary," a farmer leader said.
