Solan: Frequent landslides on the Parwanoo-Solan stretch of National Highway-22 has not only put the question mark on the quality of four-laning work, but has also brought the focus back on raising higher-level breast walls on the stretch, which is stuck in the dispute between GR Infra Ltd and the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).

NHAI officials says the company is supposed to construct breast walls of height ranging from 1.5 m to 3 m as per the project report approved for the four-laning work worth Rs 742 crore.

However, since the excavation work on the hillsides has exposed the entire hill surface, the breast walls have failed to buttress the damage. Landslides are triggered each time it rains; the muck not only falls over the breast walls but also damage them. As a result, driving, too, has become risky as muck and boulders as well as uprooted trees could fall anytime on vehicles. GR Infra Limited Devasish Patra, Project Manager says they are constructing breast walls of height ranging from 1.5 m to 3 m as per the project design, but in view of the number of landslides it has become apparent that walls of higher elevation are required to be erected.
