Shimla: Following the directions of the High Court to file a fresh status report in the Kotkhai minor rape and murder case and custodial death of an accused in the police station within two weeks, the CBI has speeded up the probe.
The CBI questioned the Kotkhai police station staff, which were on duty on the night of July 18 when an accused, Suraj, died, for several hours to know the actual cause of the death and the circumstances under which he died.
The government had immediately transferred the entire staff of the police station after the death of Suraj which triggered violent protests and the CBI also quizzed the staff present at the time of the incident. The CBI is trying to ascertain whether five persons, arrested by the police and are in the judicial custody, are actual culprits in the case.
The CBI is also questioning the members of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and also finding out that the persons, whose pictures were uploaded on the Facebook page of the Chief Minister and were later deleted, has any involvement in the case.
The CBI is also examining the forensic evidence and may take DNA samples of some more suspects, sources said. The MADAD organisation, fighting for justice to the rape victim, has decided to tie ‘Rakhis’ to the CBI team members on Raksha Bandhan for seeking speedy justice.
