Faridabad: A 23-year-old woman gave birth near the entrance of the Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Tigaon village of Faridabad district this morning as no staff member was available. The expectant mother, Priyanka, of Prahaldpur village, was brought to the PHC around 6.20 am for delivery. The watchman at the centre told them to either go elsewhere or come around 9 am as there was no staff to handle the case.

However, the woman’s relatives decided to stay put and wait for the PHC to open, considering her delicate condition. As she went into labour, they made a makeshift arrangement at a corner of the PHC’s entrance. The woman and the newborn were shifted inside the PHC after about 30 minutes when one of the staff members, who was called, reached the spot. She was attended by a physician and, fortunately, both the baby and the mother were healthy.

Tigaon MLA Lalit Nagar reached the PHC and lambasted the state government. “The PHC has the state’s first delivery hut, which has been completely neglected by the government. There is neither a doctor nor a nurse to attend patients at odd hours. A delivery hut is required to have a doctor or nurse round the clock. Also, there is no ambulance to transport the critical patients,” the MLA said.

Officiating Chief Medical Officer Dr Anup Kumar said he was aware of the matter and would look into it.
