“oont ke mooh mein jeera”

Congress MP Raja Warring Slams PM Modi’s Rs 1,600 Crore Relief for Punjab Latest News: Congress MP from Ludhiana, Punjab, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for “disappointing” Punjab after the PM announced financial assistance of Rs. 1,600 crore today. Punjab’s government and its leaders had been demanding a Rs. 20,000 crore relief package and clearance of pending dues of Rs. 60,000 crore from the Centre.

Calling the announcement “a drop in the ocean” and  “oont ke mooh mein jeera”, Warring criticized the Centre’s approach.

He said, “A drop in the ocean; as we say in Hindi, ‘oont ke mooh mein jeera’. Prime Minister @narendramodi ji has deeply disappointed Punjabis once again. When Punjab had great expectations from him, he failed. Rs 1600 crore is not even peanuts. The estimated loss runs into thousands of crores of rupees. Wonder what the idea is behind such meagre relief,” Amarinder Singh Raja said in a post on X later today.

Prime Minister Modi, following the visit, announced Rs. 1,600 crore in addition to the Rs. 12,000 crore already allocated to the state. The package also includes an advance release of the second instalment of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and benefits under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme.
