Karnal: A five-member passenger amenities committee of the Railway Board carried out an inspection of the Karnal railway station today.
It found drinking water taps one inch higher, dirt near these taps and filthy surroundings near toilets. The team scolded the authorities and instructed them to improve the system.
They directed the authorities to provide all basic amenities to passengers as the Union government had been working hard on it.
This committee had been formed by the Ministry of Railways to study, inspect and provide suggestions and recommendations on matters of passenger amenities on railway premises.
The Karnal railway station, believed to have been constructed by the Britishers, was at the 233rd rank in the third party audit report on railway station cleanliness recently. Today’s visitors approved the rank.
The committee members led by Ashok Tripathi visited the enquiry office, ticket window, waiting room, platform and catering stalls. They interacted with passengers to understand the facilities required at the station and took their feedback on improvement in facilities. He asked the authorities to start Wi-Fi facilities at the station in a day or two and submit a report in this regard to thecommittee.
“The Prime Minister and Railway Minister are emphasising on providing all facilities to passengers at every railway station and such flaws are unacceptable,” Tripathi said.
