Hisar: Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today said a battalion of 1,000 policewomen would be raised.

He said the percentage of women in the state police force has increased from 6 per cent to 9.3 per cent, and with the recruitment of 1,000 more policewomen, the number would increase to 11 per cent. He added 38 women help desks operational at the sub-divisional level could be converted into full-fledged police stations, if required.

In view of their large population, an additional women’s police station would be established in Gurugram and Faridabad. Two women police stations are already functioning in these districts. Additional police stations would be set up at the NIT, Faridabad, and southern Gurugram.

Khattar said crèches would be opened at all-women police stations for the care of children accompanying their mothers on duty and women lodged there for committing crimes. “A family counsellor will be appointed at each women police station to provide counselling to complainants and help in strengthening their familial bond,” he said.

“The Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao programme has yielded positive results, with the sex ratio at birth in the state, which was less than 832 girls per 1,000 boys in 2014, crossing the 950-mark,” he added. Khattar urged people belonging to all sections of society to contribute towards this initiative.
