Comedian and YouTuber Samay Raina, who is already under probe in the India’s Got Latent row over vulgar jokes, may face more legal complications as an application accusing him of mocking differently-abled individuals has been filed before the Supreme Court.
The Cure SMA Foundation filed the application, seeking the Supreme Court’s intervention in the case. The foundation urged the court to include provisions for protecting differently-abled individuals under the proposed regulatory framework for online content, India Today reported.
According to the report, the applicant alleged that the comedian mocked the treatment of patients suffering from Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) in two of his videos and also made fun of cross-eyed individuals.
Further, the applicant pointed to news reports about a video in which cricketers Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, and Suresh Raina were seen or heard making comments that appeared to mock or insult people with disabilities. The applicant stated that the video was offensive and disrespectful toward disabled individuals.
Justice Surya Kant, who was hearing the matter along with Justice Kothishwar Singh, remarked, “This is a very serious issue. We are disturbed to see that.”

We are disturbed to see that. We would like to have those instances on record as well. If you have video clippings, please get those on record and implead the person concerned.”
In a related matter involving YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, the court addressed his request for the release of his passport and asked Solicitor General Tushar Mehta to confirm whether Allahbadia is still required for investigation and based on that his request for the release of his passport will be considered.
