'Lal Salaam' is a sports drama that stars Vishnu Vishal and Vikrant in lead roles and features Rajinikanth in an extended cameo. The film aims to promote religious harmony and deals with a sensitive topic. 'Lal Salaam' marks Aishwarya Rajinikanthh's comeback as a filmmaker.

At the Lal Salaam audio launch, it was revealed that it is based on an over 40-year-old real-life incident that involved the burning of a Hindu temple chariot. The car burning incident in the temple happened in Vishnu Rangasamy’s hometown, who is the cinematographer of the film. He developed a script based on it and another incident that happened in cricket.
