Pankaj Tripathi Opens Up About Taking a Year-Long Break After Father’s Demise

Pankaj Tripathi, one of the most loved and cherished actors known for his outstanding screen presence, has recently opened up about taking a year-long break from acting following his father’s demise.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, the actor revealed that he did not sign a single film for a year and used the time to work on himself, both physically and mentally.
"After my father's demise, I went on an introspective journey. I did not sign a film for one year, and I didn't announce that I was taking a break,” he shared.

He said he took the time off to “work on myself and heal, physically and mentally,” adding, “That's why I've lost weight. I work out for three hours a day, six days a week. I also travelled — trips that I'd been putting off for a long time.”

During this break, he only did a few ad shoots and some patchwork for Anurag Basu’s Metro… In Dino.
"I kept telling everyone that I don't have time. But actually, that time was reserved for introspection."
"I'm at a point where I'm no longer working for the money. I need to do work that gives me something to look forward to," he said.

Tripathi also revealed that there was a time when he would count the days waiting for shoots to end.

"There was a time when I was counting days on projects, just waiting for them to end. And I thought — this can't be right. I love this profession so much. I've made so many sacrifices to get here, and if I'm spending my days just waiting for shoots to wrap, then something's wrong. That's why I took a break," he confessed.
Pankaj Tripathi’s father, Pandit Banaras Tiwari, passed away in August 2024 at the age of 99.

His upcoming film Metro… In Dino, directed by Anurag Basu, is set to release on July 4, 2025. The film is a sequel to the 2007 hit Life… in a Metro.
