The Indian team has reached the World Test Championship finals for the second time in a row.

New Zealand defeated Sri Lanka by 2 wickets in the first test match in Christchurch. Kane Williamson scored his 28th century to lead New Zealand to a spectacular victory. With this win, New Zealand took a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series. Significantly, India have qualified for the finals of the prestigious World Test Championship (WTC). India will face Australia in the WTC final to be played at the Oval from June 7.

The Indian team has reached the World Test Championship finals for the second time in a row. The team lost to New Zealand in the inaugural season (2021).Dimuth Karunaratne-led Sri Lanka toured New Zealand to win the two-match series 2-0, but their hopes ended with a loss in the opening match.

Australia emerged as the first team to qualify for the WTC final by defeating India by 9 wickets in the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar series in Indore. After this, India again needed a win in the Ahmedabad Test or a favorable result in the first Test between New Zealand and Sri Lanka.

New Zealand started Day 5 at 28/1, needing 257 more runs to win the game. The hosts got off to a powerful opening on Day 5. Opener Tom Latham and former skipper Kane Williamson were at the crease in the start. Latham started off well but was not able to survive on the crease as spinner Prabath Jayasuriya picked his wicket.

Talking about the last two overs of the match, New Zealand needed 15 runs to win the match. Sri Lanka bowled well to pick wickets. With one run needed on the last ball, Williamson missed the ball but ran for a single. Sri Lanka wicket-keeper Niroshan Dickwella made a throw after Williamson completed the single. Afterwards, Asitha Fernando picked up two wickets in two overs. He first got rid of Mitchell, who departed after scoring 81 runs off 86 balls, before picking the wicket of Tom Blundell. Williamson brilliant score leaded the team to victory.
