Germany will now face Netherlands in the finals of men's Hockey in the Paris Olympics 2024.
Paris Olympics 2024, Hockey, India vs Germany semi-finals: The Indian Hockey team on Tuesday lost the semi-final match against Germany by 3-2 as Men in Blue's dream to enter the finals of the Paris Olympics 2024 has been crushed. Now, India will take on Spain in the bronze medal match while Germany will play against the Netherlands in the finals.
It was a tough match wherein India, once, had the lead but couldn't control it for a long time.
In the first quarter, the Indian hockey team dominated the Germans and didn't allow their attacks to enter Indian territory. Besides, Harmanpreet Singh scored the first goal for the country as he converted the penalty corner into a goal.
While India dominatingly created 7 penalty corners, Germany couldn't create even a single one in the first quarter.
In response, Germany made a great comeback as they kicked off the second quarter with an aggressive approach and even created their first penalty corner within 4 starting minutes and Peillat Gonzalo converted it into the goal, leveling the score 1-1.
Furthermore, Germany took their lead to 2-1 courtesy of Christopher Ruehr's goal which he converted from a penalty stroke.
In the third quarter, Harmanpreet Singh got an opportunity as India was given a penalty corner but 'Sarpanch Sahab' couldn't get it converted into a goal. Later, when India got another opportunity in the form of a penalty corner, India tried variation and it worked as Sukhjeet Singh hit the goal, leveling the score.
After this, both the teams were up for the decisive quarter wherein both India and Germany were off to a dominating start. The threat loomed large on India at the beginning of the fourth quarter as India conceded a penalty corner at the beginning of the fourth quarter but PR Sreejesh saved the goal. Not just the first penalty corner but he also saved the other one in the same quarter.
However, Germany took the lead in the fourth quarter after Marco Miltkau scored a field goal a major setback to team India. Besides, India's star goalkeeper PR Sreejesh wasn't available in the end as he moved out of the ground to increase the number of field players. However, India conceded the penalty corner and fortunately, they saved it, but couldn't score the equalizer.
