Mohammad Shami requests ICC to lift Saliva Ban on bowling latest news: Mohammad Shami, India’s primary bowler in the Champion’s trophy has appealed the International Cricket Council (ICC) to lift ban on the use of saliva on the ball.
Shami emphasized that reverse swing is a crucial weapon for fast bowlers, especially in high-pressure ODI matches. He stated that he and other bowlers have repeatedly appealed to the ICC to reconsider the ban.
He believes that using saliva helps generate reverse swing, making the game more competitive and exciting.
Speaking about his form during the tournament, Shami said, “I am trying to get my rhythm back and contribute more to the team.”
Addressing the pressure of being India’s main pacer, he explained that when other frontline fast bowlers are unavailable, and the other one is an all-rounder, the responsibility of leading the attack and taking wickets falls heavily on him.
Shami also pointed out that the two-new-ball rule in ODIs has already reduced the chances of reverse swing, and the saliva ban has further made it difficult for fast bowlers to be effective in the later stages of 50-over matches.
The rule prohibiting the use of saliva on the ball was implemented in 2022
