Woodbridge, Ontario, June 29: The Canada India Foundation (CIF), in collaboration with the Tafsik organization, convened a one-day National Security Conference under the theme “United Against Extremism,” ANI reported.

The conference brought together prominent voices from across Canada to deliberate on the growing threats posed by extremist ideologies, foreign interference, and their impact on the country’s domestic security. Among the attendees were journalists, community leaders, individuals who lost loved ones in terrorist attacks, CIF Chairperson Ritesh Malik, and former Canadian Minister Ujjal Dosanjh.

Canadian journalist Daniel Bordman openly listed extremist groups present in the country, referring to them as “the worst people” and “very mad.”

Bordman stated, “The focus of today's event is to counter the various types of extremism rising in Canada. We have Islamist groups, the Muslim Brotherhood, Pakistani ISI-funded networks, Khalistanis, and radical far-left elements. So all the worst people in the country are very mad. But I'd say all the best people in the country are in this building right now. So I'm excited to be here.”

Ritesh Malik, Chairperson of CIF and chief organizer of the event, emphasized that the conference was not aimed at targeting any community, individual, or organization.

Malik told ANI, “We are holding this 'United Against Extremism' conference because we, as Canadians, feel it is important and timely. Our communities are facing increasing threats due to extremism. This event is not directed against any community or group—it is about protecting Canada in its true form and addressing the security challenges we face as a nation. We need to call this out and ensure that policymakers and others who care about Canada listen and act.”

Sanjay Lazar, an aviation expert and author who lost his entire family in the 1985 Air India bombing, attended the conference with the hope of establishing a Memorial Learning Centre in both Canada and India.

“This marks the 40th anniversary of the Air India Kanishka bombing, where I lost my entire family. I'm here to speak to everyone in the hope that we will be able to establish a memorial learning centre in both Canada and India, and also integrate this subject into the education system across Ontario, British Columbia, and the rest of Canada,” Lazar said.

Former Canadian Minister Ujjal Dosanjh called the conference “important,” noting its rare focus on extremism within the Indo-Canadian community.

“I think it's probably one of the first public meetings in a long time to highlight the issue of extremism in Canada—particularly in the Indo-Canadian community. It also points out how politicians have neglected this topic, and how extremism, drugs, smuggling, and immigration rackets often coalesce to create serious challenges for our society,” he said.

Canadian journalist Wyatt Claypool also praised the event.

Claypool, stated, “It’s a great conference because we are finally talking about national security and foreign policy seriously. Canada has, at times, betrayed its allies—whether it’s India or Israel. We often take the wrong side. We speak like second-year foreign policy students obsessed with de-escalation, forgetting that sometimes, there is a clear right and wrong.”
