I was happy to see many Sikh brothers and sisters here: PM Modi

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a one-day visit to Athens, the capital of Greece, on Friday morning, marking a significant diplomatic endeavor aimed at bolstering bilateral ties between the two nations. Prime Minister Modi's arrival was met with a warm reception, exemplifying the strong bonds shared by India and Greece.

As Prime Minister Modi touched down in Athens at approximately 9 am local time, he was greeted by Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis at the airport. The heartfelt reception continued beyond official circles, as members of the Indian community extended their warm regards by welcoming him with traditional drums. The Indian diaspora further honored Modi by presenting him with a traditional Greek headdress, symbolizing the cultural ties between the two countries.

The resonant chants of "Bharat Mata ki Jai" echoed through the air, underscoring the shared heritage and camaraderie between India and Greece. This visit is of great significance, marking the return of an Indian Prime Minister to Greece after a span of 40 years. Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's visit in 1983 was the last such high-level diplomatic exchange between the two nations. The visit carries a strong focus on discussions encompassing trade, technology, and defense cooperation, signaling the mutual interests that bind India and Greece. Notably, Greece has expressed a keen interest in procuring India's formidable BrahMos cruise missile.

Prime Minister Modi took to social media to share his sentiments, tweeting, "I was warmly welcomed by the Indian community in Greece. I was happy to see many Sikh brothers and sisters here. Being upholders of true Sikh principles, they are living here in great harmony." This expression of joy underscores the essence of unity within the global Indian community and reflects the values that Sikh brothers and sisters contribute to fostering.
