PM Modi Praises Indian Diaspora, Announces New Consulates in Boston and Los Angeles

PM Modi revealed that India will be opening two new consulates in Boston and Los Angeles.

PM Narendra Modi Praises Indian Diaspora: Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently commended the Indian diaspora's contributions and highlighted India's growing global influence during an address to 15,000 members of the Indian community at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Long Island, New York. Modi emphasized the credibility of India's democracy, the country's vast diversity, and its developmental strides, promising to work with "three times more energy, speed, and commitment" during his third term in office.

In a major announcement, PM Modi revealed that India will be opening two new consulates in Boston and Los Angeles, a year after establishing one in Seattle. This expansion brings the total number of Indian consulates in the U.S. to eight, in addition to the Indian Embassy in Washington, D.C.

Modi reflected on his deep connection with the U.S. and the Indian diaspora, recalling his visits to 29 U.S. states before holding political office and the overwhelming support he has received since becoming Prime Minister. He referenced his past interactions with the diaspora at iconic venues like Madison Square Garden (2014), San Jose (2015), Houston (2019), Washington (2023), and now New York (2024), noting that each event surpassed the last in attendance.

Highlighting the Indian diaspora as "India’s strongest brand ambassadors," Modi acknowledged their role in connecting India with the U.S. and praised their unmatched talent and dedication. As the crowd responded with chants of “Modi, Modi,” the Prime Minister remarked, "You may have crossed seven seas, but no ocean can keep India far from you."

Modi also emphasized India's cultural strength, rooted in its diversity of traditions, languages, and religions, noting that this made India a "viswabandhu," or friend of the world. This term reflects India’s growing aspirations in its foreign policy as it seeks deeper international engagement.
