Canada Extortion Crackdown: 9 Deported as Task Force Probes Foreign Nationals, Including Punjabis
Canadian authorities have intensified a crackdown on major extortion cases involving 111 foreign nationals, many of whom are under the lens for their suspected Punjabi origins.
The British Columbia (BC) Extortion Task Force, launched in September 2025, is currently investigating 32 major files across multiple jurisdictions in Canada’s Lower Mainland.
Federal investigators revealed that as of January 20, 2026, nine individuals linked to these activities have already been removed from Canada.
The task force has executed numerous search warrants in Alberta and the Southeast District, resulting in criminal charges against seven people so far.
The probe is utilising hundreds of hours of CCTV footage to dismantle these networks for extortion.
Federal authorities, including the CBSA and various national policing partners, are coordinating efforts through the task force to investigate and address immigration-related offences.
The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) issued a stern warning that refugee or asylum status will not provide immunity from legal action.
