Mandeep, who hailed from Brampton, Ontario, was killed in action on October 27, 2024, while volunteering to assist those caught in the war.

According to the report, Mandeep was driven by the Sikh principle of Sewa (selfless service) and had no prior connection to Ukraine before deciding to volunteer.

He was born in Mumbai, and his family moved to Canada in 2004. Mandeep had served part-time in the Canadian Army and was trained as a detective. He first travelled to Ukraine in January 2024. Despite returning to Canada briefly, he embarked on his final mission in October, where he suffered a fatal gunshot injury.

During a recent ceremony in Toronto, Ukrainian Consul General Oleh Nikolenko praised Mandeep for answering an urgent call for help so that the Ukrainian people could live in freedom.

His mother, Asha Kaur said that Mandeep always believed that if his life could help someone, it would be a source of satisfaction for him.
