The protest was part of an ongoing effort to address the challenges faced by international students in Canada.

Emotional Speech by International Student from Punjab in Canada's Brampton: An international student from Punjab, India, delivered a heartfelt and emotional speech during a protest in Brampton, shedding light on the struggles faced by thousands of students like him who come to Canada in search of a better future. His words, filled with raw emotion and personal anecdotes, struck a chord with the crowd, bringing many to tears.

Recalling his five-year journey in Canada, the student shared how he had already "turned permanent" long before the government’s Permanent Residency (PR) status was in reach. He described the emotional toll of leaving behind loved ones, enduring sleepless nights, and navigating the hardships that international students often face.

In his speech, he shared, “Someone asked me, ‘You have been here for five years, and you still haven't become permanent?’ I said, I turned permanent the day I left my crying mother and daughter back in India. I turned permanent when I was studying in college in the morning and working at night. Sometimes, I would sleep in buses and miss my stop, but I still told my parents I was doing well.”

His voice wavered as he recounted the exploitation students often face, working long hours with little compensation. “I turned permanent when people took advantage of our needs and even denied us our deserving money,” he added.

The student further expressed the emotional toll of missing milestones in the lives of his family and friends back home, stating, "I turned permanent when I watched the weddings of my friends and siblings through video calls. I turned permanent when I celebrated my birthday, or any celebration, wearing safety gear while working.”

One of the most poignant moments in his speech was when he spoke about the pain of losing loved ones from afar. "I turned permanent when I watched the last rites of those who taught me to walk and live. I turned permanent far ago. PR is just temporary," he concluded, his words reflecting the deep sacrifices and emotional resilience of international students.

The speech, which encapsulated the trials and tribulations of thousands of international students, drew applause and emotional reactions from the crowd. Many attendees, themselves students or members of the immigrant community, found solace and understanding in his words.
