London: Scottish police officers are probing an "unexplained" death of a nine-year-old girl, a niece of Scotland's leading Indian-origin restaurateur, in her home in Glasgow.   The girl has been identified locally as the niece of Satty Singh, after she died in her sleep late last night.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact cause of death which officers are treating as unexplained at this time," a Police Scotland statement said today. A post-mortem examination will be carried out and a report sent to Glasgow's Procurator Fiscal, Scotland's public prosecution service. The girl was reportedly discovered by another child, who was unable to wake her and alerted the adults.

"The family are devastated, she has simply passed away in her sleep," an uncle told the Daily Record.   "She is a close relative of Satty, but I don't want to give all the names without the consent of the parents. There is nothing suspicious, the police are doing their job, they need to investigate these things," he said.

Singh, popularly referred to as Glasgow's curry king, is the founder of Mister Singh's India restaurant in the city – described as one of Glasgow's oldest Indian restaurants. The 48-year-old Glasgow-based British Sikh, originally from Ambala in Punjab, lives next door to his brother Bobby Singh. The young girl found dead belongs to Bobby's family.   Members of the local British Sikh community had started gathering at the homes on Dumbreck Road in Glasgow as news of the tragedy spread. PTI
