
Jimmy Dhaliwal prominent known as Jagmeet Singh, a Sikh politician from Canada is a candidate leader of Canada's Federal NDP. It is the story that has been read all over North America and he is a first Turban Wearing Sikh in Ontario.
Jagmeet Singh was recently heckled by a female protestor during an event "Jagmeet and Greet" in Brampton, Ontario. When Jagmeet was speaking during the event, a local woman, who is distinguished as Islamophobic started yelling at him and interrupted his speech and started hurling racial slurs at him, while he was talking about, "love and courage".
Jagmeet Singh confronted about his religion. In fact, he kept talking about how he thinks no one should be intimidated by hate. In an official statement, he opened up about the incident and talked about why he didn't choose to tell the woman that he isn't Muslim but a Sikh.
Singh also supports creating more accountability around climatic change by creating an independent officer of parliament mandated to report on interim progress on emission reductions. He campaigned hard at Queen’s Park against carding, describing how it felt as a criminal defence lawyer to be stopped by police for being “brown while driving.”
He is also the first to hold a deputy leader position in Canada. Singh was announced his intention to run for the leadership of the federal NDP on May 15, 2017. He also has knowledge of English, French, Hindi, Tamil, and Punjabi.
Jagmeet Singh began his political career with his decision to run for Member of Parliament in the year 2011 fedral election as the NDP candidate in the riding of Bramalea-Gore-Malton. In 2012, Singh introduced a private member’s bill called ‘An Act to Amend the Insurance Act’ to address high auto insurance rates.
After Tom Mulcair lost a leadership review vote at the 2016 federal NDP convection, Singh was considerable as potential leadership candidate, winning the support of 11% of NDP members. Singh wants to reduce the carbon emissions levels of Canada to 30% by 2025.
