Tehran, June 23 – The Iran-Israel conflict intensified on Monday as the Israeli military launched fresh airstrikes targeting the Iranian capital, including the headquarters of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin stated, “We continue damaging and decreasing the missile launching and manufacturing capabilities of the Iranian regime.”
Several senior Iranian commanders have been confirmed dead, including Maj. Gen. Mohammad Bagheri, Iran’s highest-ranking officer, and IRGC chief Maj. Gen. Hossein Salami. Their replacements include Gen. Mohammad Pakpour and Maj. Gen. Sayyid Abdolrahim Mousavi. Brig. Gen. Amir Ali Hajizadeh has also been replaced by Brig. Gen. Seyed Majid Mousavi. No replacement has yet been announced for Maj. Gen. Gholam Ali Rashid, reportedly killed on June 17.
According to CNN, Israeli strikes hit northern Tehran, including Jordan Street and the prestigious Shahid Beheshti University. Eyewitnesses described the attacks as the most intense yet. “Jordan Street was heavily hit,” one resident said.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant declared that strikes on Tehran would continue “with full force.” Electricity disruptions were reported in southern Israel following Iranian missile retaliation, with 8,000 homes temporarily losing power.
Meanwhile, air raid sirens sounded in Haifa and northern Israel as missiles were launched from Iran. Residents were briefly ordered to take shelter but were later cleared to leave.
Russian President Vladimir Putin Monday met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Moscow. Araghchi had earlier urged the UN to condemn U.S. involvement in the strikes.
