U.S. Warns India of Tariffs Over Russian Oil Purchases: U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham has warned India, China, and Brazil of facing 100% tariffs if the countries continue to purchase "cheap" Russian oil, which he claimed is helping “keep Putin's war machine going.”
Speaking on Fox News’ “Sunday Night in America” show, Graham responded to a question on the current state of war in both Ukraine and the Middle East.
He said, “Bombing action by President Trump to help Israel has degraded Iran’s nuclear capabilities… Putin wants to recreate the former Soviet Union, the Russian empire. He wants to take countries that are not his. In the mid-90s, Ukraine gave up about 1,700 nuclear weapons with the promise that their sovereignty would be respected by Russia. Putin broke that promise. He is not going to stop until someone makes him stop.”
Graham issued a direct warning to Russian President Vladimir Putin, stating, “Your turn is coming.” He said, “So Trump has been tough on Iran, which has been incredibly dangerous, but they are now in an awakened state. Putin, your turn is coming.”
Explaining further, Graham said, “What’s going to happen here is, Trump is going to impose tariffs on people that buy Russian oil: China, India, and Brazil. Those three countries buy about 80% of cheap Russian oil, and that's what keeps Putin's war machine going. So, President Trump is going to put a 100% tariff on all those countries, punishing them for helping Putin.”
He added that Putin could survive sanctions and “could give a damn about Russian soldiers,” but emphasized that China, India, and Brazil will soon have to choose between the American economy or supporting Putin. “And I think they are going to pick the American economy,” he said.
Graham also said Putin made a “major league mistake” and warned that the Russian economy is going to be crushed. “We are flowing weapons to Ukraine, so Ukraine will have the weapons to fight Putin back,” he added.
Addressing China, India, and Brazil directly, Graham stated, “If you keep buying cheap Russian oil to allow this war to continue, we’re going to tear the hell out of you and crush your economy, because what you are doing is blood money.”
“You’re buying cheap Russian oil at the expense of the world, and President Trump is tired of this game,” he said.
Graham also urged Putin to get to the negotiating table.
