Rescue Efforts Underway as Quake Strikes Rural Communities in Gansu Province

China Earthquake News: In a devastating earthquake that rocked northwestern China late on Monday evening, the death toll has risen to 111, with more than 200 people reported injured and many still missing. The earthquake, measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale, struck the provinces of Gansu and Qinghai, causing widespread destruction and prompting urgent rescue efforts.

Chinese media reports indicate that Gansu bore the brunt of the disaster, with 100 reported deaths and 96 injuries attributed to the earthquake. In neighboring Qinghai, 11 people lost their lives, and 124 individuals sustained injuries. The magnitude, as per the US Geological Survey, is recorded at 5.9, while Chinese officials report a slightly higher measurement of 6.2.

The Earthquake, with a depth of 10 km, has inflicted severe damage on infrastructure, disrupting water and electricity supplies and causing extensive harm to transportation and communication networks.

University Students Flee Dormitories as Rescue Efforts Begin

In Lanzhou, the capital of Gansu, university students rushed out of their dormitories as tremors reverberated through the city. Rescue teams have swiftly mobilized to the affected areas, initiating operations to locate and assist those trapped or injured. Tents, folding beds, and quilts are being dispatched to provide immediate relief to those affected.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has issued directives to expedite rescue operations, emphasizing the importance of minimizing further casualties. Additionally, he has called for measures to be taken promptly to alleviate the suffering of those affected. Injured individuals are being admitted to hospitals, where medical teams are working tirelessly to provide necessary treatment.

Infrastructure Damage and Ongoing Rescue Operations

The earthquake has left a trail of destruction, halting water and electricity supply and severely impacting transportation and communication. As rescue operations intensify, the focus is on reaching affected areas and providing aid to survivors. The Chinese government is working diligently to address the immediate needs of those affected and restore essential services.
