Elon Musk’s Starship Vehicle Explodes During Static Fire Test Ahead of Tenth Flight

Texas, June 18, 2025: A SpaceX Starship vehicle, being prepared for its tenth flight test, dramatically exploded during a static fire test at the company’s Starbase facility in Texas on Wednesday night at around 11 p.m. CT.

The explosion occurred while engineers were conducting routine engine checks with the rocket stationary on a test stand. According to local law enforcement, the blast was confirmed, and no injuries were reported. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), SpaceX confirmed the incident, stating, “The Starship preparing for the tenth flight test experienced a major anomaly while on a test stand at Starbase.”

The company assured that a safety perimeter was in place and that all personnel are safe and accounted for “Our Starbase team is actively working to safe the test site and the immediate surrounding area in conjunction with local officials.”

SpaceX also urged the public to avoid approaching the site, “There are no hazards to residents in surrounding communities, and we ask that individuals do not attempt to approach the area while safing operations continue.”

A video of the explosion has since gone viral, showing a massive fireball erupting from the base of the rocket, sending flames high into the night sky.
