Flood & Cloudburst hit Northwest Pakistan Death Toll Rises Latest News: Northwest Pakistan was hit by a flash flood on Friday, which killed over 300 people, according to a report by Reuters. The rescue and relief operations in the region were halted for several hours on Monday due to heavy rain before resuming.

Heavy rainfall has washed away houses, buildings, vehicles, and properties.

Buner district, it said, was the worst affected, with over 200 deaths. Buner is located three and a half hours' drive from the country’s capita, Islamabad. The district was hit by a cloudburst, which the report says is a rare phenomenon in itself.

On Friday morning, Buner received more than 150 mm of rain within an hour on Friday morning.

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, as quoted in the report, informed that Relief goods have been sent to the affected areas.

Food, medicine, blankets, camps, an electric generator and de-watering pumps were included in the relief goods.

The disaster management authority on Sunday, as quoted in the report, said, "The current weather system is active over the Pakistan region and may cause heavy to very heavy rainfall during the next 24 hours.”

Torrential rains and flooding this monsoon have taken 657 lives across Pakistan since late  June, it added.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has extended condolences to the families of the victims. “The UN Country Teams are at the disposal of the Governments to provide necessary assistance,” a statement issued by his spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric on Sunday, read, according to PTI.

150 people are still reported missing.
