PM Modi to Visit Israel on Feb 25-26, Focus on Strategic Ties and Cooperation
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Israel on a two-day trip from February 25 to 26, sources confirmed on Monday. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu first announced Modi’s visit while speaking at the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organisations, highlighting the strong ties between the two nations. Netanyahu praised India’s global influence and said the leaders would discuss a wide range of cooperation.
During his visit, Modi is expected to address the Israeli Knesset and engage on issues of bilateral and regional interest. This will be his second visit to Israel, the first having taken place in July 2017, marking the first by an Indian Prime Minister to the country.
The visit follows several high-level ministerial exchanges between the two countries. Last year, ministers from Israel, including Haim Katz, Nir Barkat, Avi Dichter, and Bezalel Smotrich visited India, while India’s Piyush Goyal and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar travelled to Israel. During these visits, India and Israel signed a Bilateral Investment Treaty and agreed on a roadmap for a Free Trade Agreement.
In November, the two nations also inked an agreement to enhance defence, industrial, and technological cooperation, enabling the sharing of advanced technologies and joint development. The annual meeting of the India-Israel Joint Working Group in Tel Aviv further identified cooperation in defence planning, technological innovation, AI, cybersecurity, and counter-terrorism efforts.
This strategic visit is expected to reinforce the longstanding partnership and deepen collaboration across multiple sectors.
