Indian Origin Hockey Player Among Three Stabbed to Death in UK

LONDON: An Indian-origin hockey player was stabbed to death in Nottingham, Central England. The girl has been identified as Grace O’Malley Kumar (19), who was also a medical student and cricketer. Grace was the daughter of Sanjoy Kumar, a doctor of Indian origin living in London. According to the statement, Grace's ambition was to become a doctor and she was in her first year of medical studies as well as playing hockey at university.

Three people were killed in separate attacks in Nottingham on Tuesday. At the time, Grace was attacked, she was with Nottingham University classmate and cricketer friend Barnaby Webber. Both died in this incident. The identity of the attacker has not been disclosed.

According to Nottingham Police, the 31-year-old suspect has been taken into custody. He stabbed a 60-year-old man to death and stole his van and tried to run over three people, who are still hospitalized.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak expressed his concern over these incidents at the beginning of the 'House of Commons' session and expressed his sympathy with the victim's families. Home Minister Suella Braverman later issued a statement to inform parliament of the "horrific incident" and confirmed that it was not being treated as a terrorist attack at this stage. She said that the police is working diligently to provide assistance to the affected people.
