“I think it’s a very bad thing, because he’s very disrespectful. You cannot disrespect the office of the President,”
President Donald Trump threatens Musk with ‘serious consequences’ if he supports Democratic candidates
On Saturday, U.S. President Donald Trump warned of "serious consequences" if tech billionaire Elon Musk chooses to support Democratic candidates running against Republicans who back the GOP’s sweeping budget bill, according to an NBC report.
In a phone interview with NBC, Trump said that if Elon Musk “does, he’ll have to pay the consequences for that.” However, he refused to elaborate on what those consequences would be, the report said.
“He’ll have to pay very serious consequences if he does that,” he added.
Trump also expressed that he does not wish to repair his relationship with Musk.
When asked if he thought his relationship with Musk was over, he said, “I would assume so, yeah.” He added that he believed the Republican Party was more unified than ever after the fallout of the ex-duo played out in front of the whole world.
Trump said, “I’m too busy doing other things,” adding, “I have no intention of speaking to him.”
President Trump accused Elon Musk of being disrespectful to the office of the president.
“I think it’s a very bad thing, because he’s very disrespectful. You cannot disrespect the office of the President,” he said.
Regarding Elon Musk’s now-deleted post accusing Trump of being involved in the Epstein file, he said, “That’s called ‘old news,’ that’s been old news, that has been talked about for years,” adding, “Even Epstein’s lawyer said I had nothing to do with it. It’s old news.”
Their fallout stemmed from Musk being critical of the Republicans’ “Big Beautiful Bill,” calling it the “Big Ugly Bill.”
On Thursday, in the Oval Office, Trump said, “I’m very disappointed because Elon knew the inner workings of this bill. I’m very disappointed in Elon. I’ve helped Elon a lot.”
Elon Musk, in the past week, flooded his X handle with posts critical of Trump and his Big Beautiful Bill, saying, “This bill was never shown to me even once and was passed in the dead of night so fast that almost no one in Congress could even read it! And the big, ugly spending bill will make things much worse,” and calling to “Kill the Bill.”
Musk warned, “The Big Ugly Bill will INCREASE the deficit to 2.5 trillion dollars!”
He even said Trumps’ tariffs would cause a recession in the second half of this year.
He threatened Trump that he would decommission SpaceX; however, later he posted that he would not do so.
Trump had also responded on Truth Social in multiple posts, saying Trump knew about the bill and questioning why he was critical now.
Trump wrote on Thursday, “The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts,” referring to federal contracts with SpaceX. “I was always surprised that Biden didn’t do it!”
On Saturday, Trump said he hadn't further considered his suggestion to revoke federal contracts from Elon Musk's companies.
"I could do that," he said, "but honestly, I haven’t given it any more thought."
Elon had supported Trump in the last election by spending about a quarter of a billion dollars. In the first months of the Trump administration, Musk was put in charge of the Department of Government Efficiency, where Musk, according to the NBC report, oversaw mass layoffs of federal workers and the closing and partial closing of several agencies.
“I think, actually, Elon brought out the strengths of the bill because people that weren’t as focused started focusing on it, and they see how good it is,” Trump said. “So in that sense, there was a big favor. But I think Elon, really, I think it’s a shame that he’s so depressed and so heartbroken,” Trump added.
During an interview on “This Past Weekend w/ Theo Von,” Vice President JD Vance said, "I think there’s just some frustrations there. But I really, man, I think it’s a huge mistake for him (Musk) to go after the president like that.”
