Trump Warns Countries of 10% Additional Tax for Aligning with BRICS Latest News: U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday issued a stern warning to countries aligning with BRICS, the five-nation economic bloc comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.

Trump, in a post on X, wrote, “Any Country aligning themselves with the Anti-American policies of BRICS, will be charged an ADDITIONAL 10% Tariff.”
He further added, “There will be no exceptions to this policy.”

The remarks apparently follow India’s signing of the recent BRICS declaration, which condemned U.S. tariff measures.

In a separate post made around the same time, Trump also announced that the United States would begin delivering tariff-related letters and trade deals to countries around the world on Monday.
“I am pleased to announce that the UNITED STATES TARIFF Letters, and/or Deals, with various Countries from around the World, will be delivered starting 12:00 P.M. (Eastern), Monday, July 7th. Thank you for your attention to this matter! DONALD J. TRUMP, President of The United States of America,” he stated.

In a declaration on Sunday, BRICS nations voiced deep concern over the growing use of unilateral tariff and non-tariff measures that distort global trade and violate World Trade Organization (WTO) norms. Although the statement did not directly name the United States, it was aimed at U.S. trade policies.

India and the United States began formal talks in February on a bilateral trade agreement, which is expected to conclude its first phase by autumn (September–October). Both countries are also working toward an interim trade deal, according to a report by The Times of India.

Earlier this year, Trump had threatened BRICS nations—including India—with imposing 100% tariffs if the bloc proceeded with plans to reduce reliance on the U.S. dollar.
“IF the Brics nations want to do that, that’s okay, but we are going to put at least 100% tariff on the business they do with the United States,” Trump warned at the time.
