WASHINGTON: United States President Joe Biden has congratulated Ajaypal Singh Banga on becoming the next chief of the World Bank. President Biden tweeted a picture with Ajaypal Singh Banga and wrote that he will lead the World Bank to reduce poverty and solve global challenges, including climate.
Taking to Twitter, President Biden wrote, "Congratulations to my nominee, Ajay Banga, on becoming the next President of the World Bank. I look forward to working with Ajay in his new role, and to supporting his efforts to transform the World Bank to reduce poverty and address global challenges including climate."
Earlier, the Vice President of America Kamala Harris also congratulated India born Ajaypal Singh Banga on being elected as the President of the World Bank. It is worth mentioning here that Ajaypal Singh will assume his post on June 2. Banga is the first Indian-American and Sikh-American to head either of two major international financial institutions: the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.
Ajaypal Singh Banga (63) was nominated by US President Joe Biden as the next head of the World Bank. In an open letter of support, 55 lawyers, academics, executives, ex-servicemen and former government officials endorsed the nomination for the post of World Bank chief. Among those, who supported Banga were several Nobel laureates.
