China Hits Back at Trump's Tariff latest news : Beijing said it will "take necessary countermeasures" to defend its interests following President Donald Trump's decision to slap a 10% tariff on Chinese imports, starting immediately. Chinese officials say the tariffs have sparked "a very strong reaction" from authorities, and they are preparing to contest the move at the World Trade Organization.

The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs minced no words in their statement on Sunday as they condemned the tariffs imposed "under the pretext of the fentanyl issue." They firmly pointed out that the U.S. needs to tackle its fentanyl crisis in a rational manner rather than using tariffs to shift the blame. "The fentanyl crisis is a U.S. issue," they emphasized . "China has cooperated extensively with the United States in combating this problem and achieved significant results."

China's Ministry of Commerce announced its intention to lodge a lawsuit against the WTO to further reiterate Beijing's willingness to confront the measures that Beijing perceives to be unfairly imposing trade policies on it. In essence, while this step remains largely symbolic, it underscores China's determination toward the matter at hand.

Despite the expression, China's response was measured, avoiding an immediate escalation. However, the threat of unspecified countermeasures looms large, as Beijing seeks to protect its economic interests amid rising trade tensions.

President Trump basically justified his newly imposed tariffs with reasons of checking the flow of fentanyl to the United States. The administration has long criticized China over its involvement in producing before chemicals for fentanyl and exporting them. However, Beijing insisted that it has taken worthwhile steps to address the situation and had cooperated with the U.S. authorities.
