The spike comes as India witnesses a mild resurgence of COVID-19 cases.
Coronavirus Uttarakhand Latest News: Seven people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Uttarakhand's Dehradun district, pushing the total number of active cases in the region to 29. According to the Health Department, the latest infections include three residents from Rishikesh, one from Sahaspur, and three from Raipur.
Out of 25 samples tested on Friday, seven were confirmed positive, indicating a noticeable local uptick. Health officials have begun contact tracing and are identifying individuals who may have come into contact with the infected persons.
The spike comes as India witnesses a mild resurgence of COVID-19 cases. As of 8 AM on June 7, 2025, the country has reported 5,364 active cases, with most being mild and managed under home isolation. Since January 1, 2025, 55 deaths have been recorded nationwide, largely among individuals with comorbid conditions.
In response to the national trend, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare held a series of technical review meetings on June 2 and 3, chaired by Dr. Sunita Sharma, Director General of Health Services (DGHS). These discussions involved the Disaster Management Cell, Emergency Management Response (EMR) Cell, National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), and representatives from central hospitals and all States and Union Territories.
States have been directed to ensure the readiness of healthcare infrastructure, including the availability of oxygen supplies, isolation beds, ventilators, and essential medicines. A nationwide mock drill to assess oxygen supply systems—such as PSA plants, LMO tanks, and MGPS pipelines—was conducted on June 2 as part of preparedness efforts.
In a related development, researchers at IIT Guwahati have unveiled a novel method for detecting and measuring SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for COVID-19. The technique, based on sedimentation dynamics of a clay-virus-electrolyte mixture, offers a potentially rapid and efficient diagnostic approach. The study, published in the journal Applied Clay Science, was led by Prof. T. V. Bharat (Civil Engineering) and Prof. Sachin Kumar (Biosciences and Bioengineering), along with researchers Dr. Himanshu Yadav and Deepa Mehta.
Authorities are urging citizens to remain vigilant, adhere to COVID-appropriate behavior, and consult healthcare professionals in case of symptoms.
