UP news: In a shocking and unprecedented incident, a 24-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh’s Jaunpur district allegedly chopped off his left leg below the knee in an attempt to secure admission to the MBBS course under the disability quota, exposing the extreme pressure and cut-throat competition surrounding medical entrance exams.
According to reports, the aspirant has been identified as Suraj Bhaskar, a resident of Khalilpur village. He initially misled the police by claiming that he had been attacked by unknown persons.
Suraj had reportedly appeared for the NEET examination twice but failed to qualify on both occasions, which allegedly pushed him to take the extreme step. The case came to light after police recovered a diary from his possession, in which he had written, “I will become an MBBS doctor in 2026.”
Based on his initial statement, police registered an FIR against two unidentified persons on charges of attempted murder. However, during interrogation, Suraj repeatedly changed his version, raising suspicion.
Further investigation revealed that he had allegedly used a machine to sever his foot. Police later recovered injections from a field near an under-construction house, following a search after he confessed to the incident.
