“If there has been such a meeting, everyone should come to the Samajwadi Party, where they will be respected”
Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Shivpal Yadav on Wednesday slammed Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) for an only Brahmin MLAs meeting reportedly held yesterday, saying BJP “divides people by caste”.
“If there has been such a meeting, everyone should come to the Samajwadi Party, where they will be respected,” the SP leader remarked.
According to a report by the Times of India, around four dozen Brahmin MLAs and MLCs of the BJP party met over a Baati-chokha dinner at the official residence of Kushinagar MLA PN Pathak’s at Bahukhandi Mantri Awas. BJP leaders who attended the dinner were MLAs Ratnakar Misra, Prakash Dwivedi, Prem Narain Pandey, Shalabh Mani Tripathi, Ankur Raj Tiwari, Vinay Dwivedi, Rishi Tiwari, Vivekanand Pandey, and Kailashnath Shukla, along with three dozen other Brahmin MLAs and MLCs.
The report noted that the meeting “holds significance,” citing the BJP’s appointment of Pankaj Chaudhary, a seven-time MP from Maharaganj and a Kurmi, as its UP unit chief.
It added citing political observers that such dinner meetings are seen as their attempt to put pressure on the party leadership to keep their caste in mind while making future political appointments.
