11 killed in Gonda Accident Latest News: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday announced an ex-gratia of rupees 5 lakh each for the next of kin of those who died in the tragic accident in Gonda district.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), CM Adityanath described the loss of lives in the "extremely tragic and heart-wrenching" incident as "unfortunate".

He stated, "My condolences are with the grief-stricken families. Instructions have been issued to provide financial assistance of rupees 5 lakh each to the families of the deceased. The district administration has also been directed to ensure that the injured are taken to the hospital immediately and provided with proper treatment."

He added, "I pray to Lord Shri Ram that the departed souls attain salvation, the bereaved families find the strength to bear this immense sorrow, and the injured recover swiftly. Om Shanti!"

According to ANI, eleven people died after the vehicle they were travelling in fell into a canal under the Itia Thok Police Station limits in Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh. The vehicle was carrying 15 passengers, who were reportedly on their way to the Prithvinath Temple to offer prayers.

According to a report by the Hindustan Times, the bodies have been recovered from the canal and identified.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the accident.

SP Gonda, Vineet Jaiswal speaking to ANI said, "...Upon receiving information, local villagers and Police initiated a rescue operation. Four people, including the driver, were rescued alive. 11 bodies have been retrieved by the Police. The four people who are alive have been sent to CHC. Panchayatnama and postmortem of the bodies will be done for which it has been sent to District Hospital. CMO has directed all official to reach the spot and carry out rescue and relief operations and proper medical treatment to the injured. A compensation has also been announced."
