Writers Workshop at Panjab University

Research Promotion Cell in collaboration with Taylor and Francis Group organised the Writers Workshop at Panjab University (PU). The workshop was addressed by the UK based publishing group editorial team headed by Nitisha Devasar, T&F Managing Director, India.

In his initial presentation Vice Chancellor Professor Arun Kumar Grover while recalling his association with his post-doctoral supervisor at Imperial College Professor Cole who headed the T&F worldwide in the eighties, underlined the critical need for the young researchers and faculty in the Indian University system to learn how to structure and write a publishable paper in international journals.

While sharing his experiences of the western universities, he also emphasized the need on the part of young faculty to learn the skill of not writing but also making research presentation given the different time slot even of short duration to convey the gist of their research in the nutshell and in a coherent manner.

 Devesar in her presentation spoke about the contribution of the T&F group in giving space to the Indian academic scholarship in the Routledge journals and making them visible worldwide. She asked the present academic audience to select the journals for their research publications very carefully and not get trapped in API score making and destroying their CV forever.

The editorial team of the group made two presentations one being how to publish a book (Gangandeep Singh and Aakash Chakravarty) and another being how to publish in an academic journal by Raju Robinson. On this occasion, Professor OP Katare, Director Research and Col GS Chadha, Registrar, PU Registrar also expressed their opinion to create and promote a congenial climate for original academic research in PU.

Incidentally, Taylor and Francis Group selected only five institutions in India for holding such workshops. There was a huge response from the young faculty as well as researchers and even masters degree students as they participated in Q&A sessions and showed a keen interest in the book display put up by the UK headquartered publishing group. RPC associate director Professor Ramanjit Johal and RPC member Professor Ashutosh Kumar along with Dr Raj Kumar, Librarian, PU helped in coordinating the workshop.
