Chandigarh: The Punjab BJP wing revealed the number of suicides in the regime of Captain Amarinder Singh’s government. In a statement released here, the BJP leaders stated that the Chief Minister turned a blind eye to the fact that 70 farmers have committed suicide within 80 days of Amarinder’s rule.

In a statement released here, the BJP leaders stated that the Chief Minister turned a blind eye to the fact that 70 farmers have committed suicide within 80 days of Amarinder’s rule.

The state party vice-president, Harjit Singh Grewal and state party secretary, Vineet Joshi said that while Capt. Amarinder Singh is busy making statements over the condition of farmers in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh but he forgotten the plight of Punjab farmers.

Vineet Joshi said, “Over 70 farmers have committed suicide in the state since Capt. Amarinder Singh has assumed office. Family members of the suicide victims are still awaiting the compensation of Rs. 10 lakhs and a job to a family member, which he had promised before coming into power.” Joshi further said that thousands of acres of crops have been damaged due to fire, rains and hailstorm and the farmers are waiting for the compensation of Rs. 20000 which Captain Amarinder Singh had promised”.

Grewal asked Capt. Amarinder Singh and Sunil Jhakhar to fulfill their promises as the people had voted them into power believing in them.  He added, “Farmers in the state are going through the worst phase of their lives and you have failed them on all fronts.”
