Vigilance nabs senior assistant taking bribe of Rs. 50,000

Chandigarh: State Vigilance Bureau today nabbed a Senior Assistant Bhupinder Singh red handed while taking bribe of Rs. 50,000. 

Disclosing this here an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said Bhupinder Singh Senior Assistant posted at office of Punjab Land Records Jalandhar was nabbed red handed by Vigilance team for accepting bribe of Rs. 50,000 from complainant Gurmej Singh of village Lammey, Kapurthala district.

The Complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the accused Bhupinder Singh was demanding Rs. 1,20,000 as a bribe for providing certified copies of old land records and allotment of letters of displaced persons for which he had applied last month. 

He also informed that he was demanding Rs 50,000 as a first installment and remaining amount to be paid after presentation of copy of records.

After verifying his information, the Vigilance team laid a trap and the accused was arrested on the spot while accepting bribe of Rs. 50,000/- from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. 

He informed that a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at VB police station Jalandhar and further investigation was under progress.
