Ferozepur: The Punjab Police has arrested three persons near here for allegedly smuggling heroin from Pakistan into the state and seized 3 kg of the contraband from them. Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested the accused -- Jagdish Singh (30), Swarn Singh, a resident of Rajo Ke village in Tarn Taran district, and Gurdev Singh, a resident of Rajatal village in Amritsar, last evening, Assistant Inspector General (counter intelligence wing) Narinder Pal Singh said today.

Jagdish, a resident of Fazilka, owned land across the sealed border and was in touch with Pakistani drug smugglers. He was working as a "conduit" and supplied the heroin consignment, received from Pakistan, to the other drug peddlers in the area, he said. "He used to get Rs 2 lakh for per kg from Pakistani agents for allowing them to use his fields to conceal the consignment," Singh said. Swarn and Gurdev were Jagdish's regular customers, he said.
