Student commits suicide in Punjab

Muktsar: A 20-year-old B-Tech student of Guru Teg Bahadur Khalsa Institute of Engineering and Technology at Chhapianwali village, near Malout commits suicide by jumping into a canal near Gidderbaha town.

The deceased was identified as Savneet Singh, a resident of Khuian Sarwar village near Abohar in Fazilka district. His father, Harkrishan Singh, an employee of the Power Department, told the Gidderbaha police, “My son was under stress over his studies.” Savneet had sent a WhatsApp message to one of his friends on Thursday, saying that he was committing suicide.

After a post-mortem examination at the Civil Hospital, Gidderbaha, the police handed over the body to the family. “We have started inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC),” said Rajpal Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police.
